Happy Haunted Holidays

Theatre for Youth and the Theatre for Young Audiences Dramatist’s Guild recently presented Happy Haunted Holidays, a play written by Liz Garrett. Liz is a senior Theatre for Youth major who also co-directed the play.

Inspired by holidays that are not widely celebrated in American culture, Liz created a piece that highlights Halloween, The Day of the Dead, Hanukkah, and Christmas. Liz said, “I wanted to widen the cultural understanding and appreciation of other holidays.”

On December 1, 2018, there was a matinee performance of Happy Haunted Holidays followed by a playwriting workshop for the children in attendance. The workshop consisted of playwriting, costuming, movement, and props. With the help of a few School of Theatre and Dance students, the children created their own pieces that were presented the same day.
