Student Receives URCA Grant for Original Work

Twilight Boy

School of Theatre and Dance student, Connor Gerney, has received an URCA Grant to produce his original play, “Twilight Boy.”

URCA stands for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity and these grants are awarded to undergraduate students in one of the following areas: Biomedical Sciences, Science, Technology, Engineering & Math, Social Sciences, and Arts & Humanities.

“Twilight Boy” focuses on three sculpture students and what happens when one of them goes missing. It is a one-act mystery centered around the conflict between Western and Eastern thought, specifically the concept of death.

Connor pulled inspiration for “Twilight Boy” from his interest in Taoism and the image of a tired college student arriving late to class in a black peacoat. Connor said, “I thought it would be really cool to have an entertaining piece of theatre staged as a mystery that also addresses deep, philosophical concepts.”

Performances of “Twilight Boy” will take place on Sunday, February 17, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the Whirligig Stage in Downtown Greenville. The performances last around an hour and admission to the performance is free.
