Born and raised in Fresno, California, pianist and composer Jared Eben began his musical career at the age of 16 when he was asked to accompany his high school production of Grease. An immense passion for musicals emerged, and since then, he has collaborated on upwards of twenty-four musicals with numerous regional, community, and educational organizations. Recent performances include Pippin with East Carolina University, Mamma Mia and Little Shop of Horrors with Morro Bay High School, Grey Gardens and Les Misérables with Stage Works Fresno, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat with Center Stage Clovis, and Spring Awakening with Children’s Musical Theatre Works. Jared currently serves as Performing Artist, Musical Director, and Instructional Consultant at East Carolina University where he teaches Musical Theatre Fundamentals, Class Piano for Musical Theatre Majors, Musical Theatre Techniques, and accompanies department performances and dance classes.

Prior to arriving at East Carolina University, Jared served as a Teaching Assistant on full scholarship for the department of music at the University of California Santa Barbara. While working towards his Doctorate in Collaborative Piano, he accompanied the University Opera Singers, Women’s Chorale, as well as the voice and instrumental students in rehearsals, lessons, master classes, recitals, and other performances. Mr. Eben also was an adjunct faculty member at California State University Stanislaus, where he taught class piano and served as Accompanist II.

A well-rounded collaborative pianist, Jared has accompanied several prominent musicians in recital and has been a member of several chamber music groups. He worked with numerous regional choral ensembles and has served as accompanist for the Modesto Symphony Chorus, the California State University Stanislaus Concert Chorale and Chamber Singers, the Soli Deo Gloria Women’s Chorus, as well as many school throughout the country.

Mr. Eben attended Chapman University where he earned a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance. Under the direction of Karen Knecht, he was the South Section Winner of the Music Teachers’ Association of California 2009 Piano Competition and received the Outstanding Keyboard and Music Theory Award from Chapman University. Mr. Eben also holds a Master’s Degree in Piano Performance from New York University, where he earned the Steinhardt Scholarship and studied under Eduardus Halim. While attending New York University, Mr. Eben served as adjunct instructor, teaching keyboard harmony and group piano classes, as well as elective private piano lessons. Jared is a DMA candidate at the University of California Santa Barbara, and will be finishing his dissertation on Sight Reading and Look Ahead Distance in music very soon!
