Jill Matarelli Carlson (She/Her/Hers) is a movement specialist, actor, and educator who is dedicated to advocating for performer safety. She is a Certified Teacher with The Society of American Fight Directors, a Certified Intimacy Director with IDC Intimacy Directors and Coordinators, and a 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher. Jill has worked as an Entertainment Cast Member for Walt Disney World and co-founded The Odyssey Express Touring Theatre Company; whose goal was to bring quality theatre experiences to children in the Chicago-land area. She has worked professionally all over the United States as an actor, fight director, and intimacy choreographer. Most recently, she staged the violence, movement, and intimacy for the Cape Fear Regional Theatre productions of Wait Until Dark, Disgraced, Peter and The Starcatcher, Music City, and Memphis. Jill received an MFA in Acting with a Movement Concentration from Western Illinois University. Favorite roles include Soccer Mom in The Wolves, Fraulein Schneider in Cabaret, Aunt Eller in Oklahoma!, Matron Mama Morton in Chicago, the title role in Antigone, Mrs. Walker in Tommy, Amy in Company, and the Herald in Marat/Sade. Jill was awarded the ECU Scholar – Teacher Award for 2019 – 2020 and UNC Board of Governor’s Distinguished Professor for Teaching Award for 2014 – 2015.
