M. Gabriela Estrada is a bilingual, multidisciplinary educator, artist, journalist, and filmmaker.
She holds a B.A. and M.F.A. in Dance from the University of California, Irvine, and a Ph. D. in
Flamenco Interdisciplinary Studies from the Sociocultural Anthropology and Philology
Departments at the University of Seville. Her M.F.A. thesis, The Choreographic Development of The
Three-Cornered Hat through the 20th Century, and her dissertation – Flamenco’s Contributions to Ballet – led
her to film the documentary ENI9MA. Her creative work embraces contemporary theatrical
western dance forms, including ballet, modern, jazz, musical theatre, tap, and flamenco. As an arts
education and social justice advocate, Estrada promotes bridges between Hispanic and Latin
American communities and the arts. Dr. Estrada serves NDEO as Advisory Board Director for
Research and East Carolina University as Teaching Assistant Professor of Dance.
